Let’s start with those pots that you managed to burn the base so badly you’re ready to throw away.
Before you do that, arm yourself with a piece of fine sandpaper and get to work.
In no time your pot will be ready for you to use again.
This goes also for the racks in the oven, even if they are black with burnt on overspills a bit of time spent with the sandpaper will bring them back like new.
CHOPPING BOARD NEED REFRESHING?
Lemon is good for so many things, and a good rub with a cut lemon on your chopping board will give a real fresh citrus smell to its surface. Leave it for say 30 minutes that give it a good rinse.
KEEPING THE FRIDGE SMELLING NICE
Keep a dish of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge to absorb smells and give a quick wipe down every couple of days with vanilla essence to keep it smelling nice.
SO, THERE IS CHEWING GUM STUCK TO THEIR CLOTHES !
I have not tried this but believe if you put the garment in the freezer until the gum hardens you will be able to get it off much easier by either pulling it off, or with a dinner knife just scrape it off. Makes sense to me and could just work.
DRY WATER SPILLS ON THE CARPET QUICKER
Get a thick clean towel and fold it. Lay it over the spill and stand on the towels moving from side to side. Turn the towel over and repeat. This should absorb most of the water. Use 2 or more towels if the spill is heavy. I feel this should only be done when the spill is clear water.
CHANGING A DUVET COVER.
Find a large space to lay the cover down inside out.
Lay the Duvet on top.
Slide your hand down inside the cover to each of the bottom corners inside the duvet cover.
Keeping hold of the duvet cover corners, grab the bottom corners of the duvet itself and pull through the inside.
Give your Duvet a good shake and fasten.
DON’T THROW AWAY ALL YOUR BEER CARTONS
They make excellent storage containers for the garage and workshop. Store lubricants, sealers, and all your tubes and cans on one place.
PRUNING HIGH BRANCHES FROM TREES AND TALL SHRUBS ON YOUR PROPERTY.
When your pruning shears are not long enough to try extending them by putting strong firm PVC Piping over the handle, ensuring the full handle is encased and secure with strong tape. Do not extend too much otherwise, the shears may become unstable.
A HANDY QUICK MEASURING TAPE.
If you have an NZ $20 note, then you have a tape measure for small distances. Yes, just remember that a NZ $20 note is ‘blah’ cms long and if you multiply the number of times your note is needed to cover the distance you will have your answer.
NON-SLIP ON TRAYS AND CHAIR SEATS.
Trays with a shiny surface are probably more dangerous that carrying hot or heavy in your hand. A hot teapot sitting on a shiny surface can slip very easily. Most hardware and general stores sell the non-slip matting in a roll of about ½ metre. This is very cheap and is worth using. Simply lay a piece on a tray to prevent slips and use it on chairs to prevent cushions slipping off all the time. Use it anywhere you need to stop items moving.
It is used a lot by sea farers on boats to prevent items slipping in rough seas.
